Room with a View

"Wow!" This was all I could think when I pulled back the curtains in my hotel room where I would be staying until I found a suitable flat to move into for the rest of my time here. According to my TB (Traveler’s Bible) – Lonely Planet : Egypt: “Laid-back and pleasant, Aswan is the perfect place for a break from the rigours of traveling in Egypt. The Nile is magically beautiful here as it flows down from the dams and around the giant granite boulders and palm-studded islands that protrude from its waters. Thanks to its long and ancient history, Aswan has fascinating Pharaonic, Graeco-Roman, Coptic, Islamic and modern monuments.” Not bad for a new place to live. I’m looking forward to exploring it in the coming months. I am happy to be by the water again after being away from Prince Edward Island for so long. The view from the balcony at my flat isn’t as stunning as this, but I do have a nice view of the Nile, a green bank of palm trees and desert dunes. I could get used to this. . .
(The second picture is actually a photograph taken from the roof of the hotel. The first was taken from my old hotel room. As rain is extremely rare in Aswan (approximately 10mm in five years) this scene, blue sky and sunshine included, greeted me each morning.
