It's a Small (Guiding) World

After spending my first night alone in my big, somewhat empty apartment, I was feeling a bit lonely, and decided to make my way downtown to wander the market and visit a local Internet café. I wasn’t feeling lonely for very long before I received a phone call from Bob saying that he and Joyce had just met someone on the cruise they were taking north to Luxor who knows me. Having no idea who it could be, Bob passed the phone over to none other than Bev, a great Guiding friend with whom I traveled to Costa Rica last summer as part of the Canadian delegation attending the 10th Western Hemisphere Conference! It truly is a small world, especially when you’re involved in Guiding! Bev and three of her Trefoil Guild friends, including Jean, who I learned had screened my application for the conference, were doing some traveling following the recent OB-PS (Olave Baden-Powell Society) meeting in Cyprus. They would be arriving in Aswan in a few days. Even better than a phone call, I joined these ladies, and Jean’s husband, Warren, on their ship for dinner, wonderful conversation, including a hilarious and entertaining story of elephant riding in Thailand, and Nubian entertainment. Thank you for a great night on the Nile!
