There are many complex issues surrounding working children. Many people were surprised when I told them I am working on a project that concerns working children, but does not aim to "ban child labour." I was surprised initially too. Most of us have heard 'ban child labour' campaigns, but we don't often pay attention to the "ban the worst forms of child labour" part or consider the issues surrounding why children are working. That's part of what I find exciting about this project. It's taking an innovative and practical approach to issues and opportunities facing children who are working that I hope will prove to be successful (evidence so far looks promising).
