Cruising the Nile (continued)

The first day we explored the wonderful city of . . .Aswan! It was my third trip to the High Dam and second to the Island/Temple of Philae, but our guide’s commentary made the visits worthwhile, and there are always new things to see and details to note. That evening we docked in Kom Ombo to take a sunset tour of the temple there. It was packed full of people – I may now understand what the lines at Disneyland are like! Of particular note at this site was the medical history and possible carvings of medical/surgical instruments used in pharaonic times. Seeing the temple lit up at night was also a highlight.

The next day we visited the very well-preserved Edfu Temple, and the market in Esna in the afternoon where I bought a galabaya (traditional Egyptian dress) for the dinner that night. Many of us also observed the ship’s progress through the lock at Esna . . .quite a process.
