A Warm/Scaly Welcome to a Nubian Village
Following a delicious lunch back at the hotel I was happy to be able to join the MEDA group on a visit to a local Nubian village on nearby Elephantine Island. After a beautiful boat ride along on the Nile, complete with locals and camels walking on the sand dunes above us and warnings of crocodiles in the river, we arrived at a Nubian village where we walked through the paths to the local school, and had drinks at a local home open to tourists. The rich African background of the Nubians is obvious both in their manner and darker skin colour, and we were welcomed warmly. Many of the houses are painted in bright colours such as yellow, blue, and green, as you can see below in the picture of the door to the home we visited.
