The Pyramids (continued)

Yes, I finally made it to the Pyramids, the sole survivors of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World, with the R-Bs. We climbed inside and walked, hunched over and otherwise, up, up, up into the burial chamber, which was not much more than a small, dark room with the bottom half of a stone sarcophagi remaining, but to be inside and to consider who had been there before. ..To consider the weight of rock above and below you . . . It’s not hard to understand why the Pyramids are one of the original Seven Ancient Wonders of the World.. . and not hard to understand why anyone with even a hint of claustrophobia would not want to make this trip.

Looking waaay up!
Before leaving the Giza plateau we also visited the Solar Barque Museum. Here’s a pic of perhaps the oldest boat in existence, an ancient cedar wood vessel that was found buried near the Great Pyramid. A pharaoh’s solar barque was used to bring the mummy of the dead pharaoh across the Nile eventually to the burial chamber. The boat was then buried around the pyramid to provide transport for the pharaoh in the next world. This boat was restored from 1200 pieces of wood buried near the Great Pyramid.
