Kara in Egypt

Thursday, February 16, 2006

The camp was something like the calm before the storm, because the next two weeks are set to be busy. We are meeting with the PPIC-Work Children’s Advisory Group to discuss the impacts the PPIC-Work interventions have had on their work and lives, as well as with business owners and children to discuss a Code of Conduct in workplaces. We are also preparing for the annual project meetings beginning on the 12th, where, amongst many items on the agenda, the results of the Loan Impact Assessment project I have been working on with my core team will be presented. Oh my. Lots to do!

Finally, just to let you know, I have accepted an invitation to extend my internship by two months, which brings my new end date to April 28, 2006. Only three months left! I can’t believe how quickly time is flying by! After pausing to talk to a neighbour and her daughter after walking home yesterday I realized that my flat finally feels like home, though a different home than I had ever known before. I’m happy to have the extra two months to work here and enjoy life in Egypt. I haven’t rebooked my flight yet, but I will most likely be back in Canada in early May. I have been considering a quick trip back to Kenya to visit a few people and places or a dive trip in the Red Sea in late April/early May. Who knows? In any event, when I do return I hope to spend some time in Ontario before heading East to the Maritimes and perhaps back to Ontario. So consider yourselves warnedJ I’m hoping to do lots of visiting upon return.

Hope all is well in your part of the world. As always I would love to hear from you and thank you for the emails and phone calls! Take care.
